Summer Concert Sizzles with Talent

26 June 2013

Harrogate High School held its annual Summer Concert showcasing the schools musical talent. The evening consisted of individual student performances, the ukulele group, jazz band, choir and GCSE groups. H Factor winner Abbie Parcell also took to the stage with Paolo Nutini’s ‘Jenny Don’t Be Hasty’ which had the crowd singing and clapping along.

The schools music department has undergone changes within the last year and the improvements were there to be seen. The newly formed Ukelele group already 10 members strong performed two songs starting with ‘Teenage Kicks’ which included a fantastic solo section from year 12 students Liam Gambles.

Starbeck Primary school also attended the event playing along with Harrogate High’s band in the opening numbers before they held their own performing a song to the packed out Theatre.

Year 7 Jason Haxby got a special mention on the evening after starting on the drums two weeks ago he was performing on stage with the school’s band – impressive!

Harrogate High School’s Jazz Band hope to go on tour in 2014 to Disney Land Paris to take part in a Jazz Festival hosted by the park. They are about to begin their fundraising campaign to help towards costs of this.

Amber Southern Head of Music said:

The evening was such a success. As a department we have been so excited to showcase our talent as our students have worked extremely hard this year and there are noticeable improvements in all ensembles. We have been performing in many concerts and gigs outside of school and as a department we are now in demand with the Harrogate community. We are very proud of all our students.
