On a day that you wouldn’t put a dog out on Killinghall Nomads were visitors to Allstars Harrogate High home pitch. The weather was miserable and the ground heavy, this wasn’t a day that would see the ‘beautiful game’ played as it should be.
From the kick off Allstars pressed the opponent and created chances at times though the centre midfield were pushed too high up the pitch exposing the back four of Fin Darvill, Maccer, Jonsey & Rico to an ever-present threat from the Killinghall attackers. A culmination of the poor weather and Allstars not holding their shape saw Killinghall test the lads and there were a few ‘hearts-in-the-mouth’ moments. Finally the deadlock was broken when Jack Clifton fed Joe Horsley. Joe (in fine form after his brace last weekend) calmly planted the ball in the back of the net. 1-0 nerves now settling Allstars dominance began to show. Due to the awful weather, Allstars substitutions came thick and fast to prevent the subs getting too cold. Half time saw Allstars 4-0 up with goals from Nat, Charlie Wynne & another from Joe.
The second half was more of the same and this saw a good Killinghall side, capitulate and concede a further 9 goals in the second half. Maccer got his first of the season and Jock, Sam & Mulandi adding their names to the goal scorers list. Charlie added one more to his seasons tally (now 27!) Joe bagged another two to take his tally to 4 in this game and Quinny rounded it off with a cool brace.
Poor Morgan had nothing to do in the second half and was a shade of blue at one point, so a bit of lateral thinking saw Rico substituted at right back and then re-introduced in goal for a frozen Morgan who was then reintroduced at centre half to allow him to run about a bit and get warm. A big well done to all the boys for their display in awful weather and also a special mention for Fin Darvill whose display at left back was sublime, earning another MOM award!
Also thanks to all the parents and injured Centre Half Tom Craddock who attended and cheered the boys on, your support was fantastic as always.
