A planning application has been submitted by Harrogate based Lateral Property Group to develop a Jamie’s Italian restaurant in what is currently the Multiyork retail unit on Parliament Street. Lateral have signed an Agreement to Lease with Jamie Oliver to develop a stunning two storey restaurant unit. The restaurant will create a substantial number of new jobs for local people.

The first Jamie’s Italian opened in 2008 in Oxford. There are now 30 Jamie’s Italian’s In the UK as well as restaurants in Dubai, Sydney and Dublin and upcoming openings in Aberdeen, Perth in Australia and St Petersburg.

Lateral recently developed Jamie’s restaurant at Lendal Cellars in York which opened in July 2012. Situated in a Grade 2* listed building, Lateral and Jamie’s completed a complicated restoration project creating a striking interior backdrop for diners. They share a vision to do the same in Harrogate. Subject to gaining planning permission, Lateral proposes to start construction work in May 2013 with Jamie’s targeting opening by Easter 2014.

Lateral’s Managing Director Philip Lunn said:

Jamie’s is a real coup for Harrogate. We have worked for a number of years on initiatives to strengthen Parliament Street and this letting is an endorsement of its position as one of the town’s prime retail, leisure and restaurant destinations. Located between Betty’s and the Royal Baths, Jamie’s is great news for our local economy and will provide a welcome addition to the town’s retail and leisure tourism offer.

As part of the planning application, Lateral also proposes to relocate their Harrogate office to new Grade A refurbished office space directly above Jamie’s.
