Students invited back for graduation ceremony

1 January 2013

Harrogate High School invited back last year´s year 13 students to celebrate their success and award them for their achievements at school. It is the second time that the school has held this event, which is now implemented in their yearly calendar.

An award was handed out to a ´star student´ from each individual subject, focussing on there attitude, determination and work ethic by the subject teacher.

Finally school Principal, Andrew Bayston handed out the ´Principal´s Award´, chosen by Mr Bayston. The award this year went to Ivan Dechovsky who attained three A´s and a B at A-Level in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology is now studying Natural Sciences at Leeds University.

Mr Bayston said:

After joining us in year 10, knowing little English, he soon began to impress us, gaining an A* in his Maths GCSE in year 10, passing a Maths A-Level unit with an A in year 11 and passing English with a C – even though he only picked up the language one year previous, he then went on to be polite, courteous and kind while carrying on impressing.

Finally there was time for all of the students to catch-up with each other and with the school staff over a buffet.

Head of Post 16 studies, Rickie Wilson said:

It was great to welcome back all of the old faces to Harrogate High School. They know they are always welcome and we are incredibly proud of what they have achieved from their time at school and since then.
