Anniversary appeal for festival memorabilia and alumni participation in 2012

30 November 2012

2013 sees the eagerly anticipated 40th anniversary of one of Harrogate’s foremost cultural events – the Harrogate International Youth Festival (Music and Performing Arts) – and organisers are appealing to residents and fans alike to come forward with their own HIYF memories for a special exhibition.

As part of a multitude of celebrations to ring in the event’s 40th year, the committee is requesting that previous participants, conductors, audience members and fans of HIYF’s rich history come forward with anything that may be put, on loan, into an exhibition during the event.

Items such as programmes, pin badges, t-shirts, sheet music and photos are all welcome to be showcased in what will be the most significant collection of the event’s memorabilia to date.

In addition, past participants are invited to join in with a one off, group performance of an Alumni massed band, Choir or Dance. Interested parties should email Claire at the Liaison Committee: HIYF1973@gmail.com.

HIYF 2013 takes place at venues and locations across Harrogate and the surrounding area from 29th March to 4th April and will once again ignite the town with exciting and diverse performances from local, regional and international groups.

The success and longevity of this event is often attributed to the wide variety of music and cultural performers that descend on Harrogate each Easter. International groups have come from as far as Canada, Africa and China to take part in what is widely regarded as one of the finest Youth Festival’s on offer globally.

Last year saw the return of the beloved Easter Parade and the 40th anniversary spectacle promises to top even last year’s hugely successful march. Fans of the Festival can expect the biggest ever event in 2013 with even more exciting events in the run up to the week long programme.

Mike Clark, Managing Director of ECE Travel LTD (organisers of the Festival) said:

We really hope that the huge number of people we know love this event and have ardently supported it for years, will help us put together something special to celebrate this wonderful milestone.

Even some great memories you have that we can write up for the exhibition would be wonderful. Anyone with any suggestions or thoughts can contact Amy Keen at One PR via akeen@onepublicrelations.com to submit – the same goes for any previous participants that might like to get involved with the Alumni performance. 2013 will be our best event yet and we look forward to sharing further details with you all in the coming weeks.
