An 88th minute goal by Leon Osborne earned Town Football Club a well deserved replay on Tuesday evening.
A lively start saw Hyde deal with a couple of Dave Merris crosses, before Dan Forrest cut in from the wing and tested keeper Carnell from 20 yards.
Unfortunately, after eight minutes, excellent play between Adam Griffin and Scott Spencer, saw the latter brought down by Alan White and Phil Jeavons made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Hyde made light of their lowly position by playing some good football, but Town posed the greater threat.
Hyde survived a goalmouth scramble with Carnell diving on the loose ball to deny Town.
Tom Platt headed a Merris corner over and Dan Forrest and Paul Beesley shot wide, before Luke Dean’s first time volley from Chib Chilaka’s pass sailed just over the top.
As half time beckoned, Beesley broke clear, found Chilaka in acres of space, but he lashed his shot straight at Carnell.
Town,orchestrated by the excellent Adam Bolder in midfield,piled on the second half pressure,forcing a number of corners.
Dean and Chilaka went close and White pushed forward to threaten with a header.
Meanwhile at the other end, Craig McGillivray had to move smartly off his line to deny Spencer after he had been played in by Jevon’s.
Both Merris for Town and Hyde’s Spencer shot well wide as Hyde looked to be surviviing Town’s efforts.
With a quarter of an hour left,Osborne, Clayton and Allan replaced Chilaka,Platt and Beesley.
It appeared that it wasn’t to be Town’s day, when Allan sprung the offside trap, broke clear,but shot straight at Carnell.
But with only two minutes left on the clock, Clayton’s powerful run gained a corner which was taken by Forrest.
Allan rose high and sent in a towering header from just inside the penalty area which was flicked just over the line by Osborne.Luckily, the Assistant Referee was perfectly positioned and immediately confirmed a goal for Town,earning them a replay on Tuesday evening.
