Two of Saint John Fisher’s students, Alice McCorry and Beki Wharton, both from Year 8, are excelling in the world of gymnastics.

Alice has been training for and competing in gymnastics since she was 8. She is a member of the Harrogate Gymnastics Club. Alice has to combine her gruelling training sessions with her school work five days a week. She performs at level 2/FIG, competing in all pieces including Floor, Vault, Bars and Beam.

Alice competes both at home and abroad and has enjoyed success while competing. In her last competition she came third (FIG), first on bars and joint first on the floor. The success of Team GB Gymnasts at the recent London Olympic Games has inspired Alice to train harder.

Alice said:

It is a lot of hard work but I enjoy taking part in the competitions. After watching the Olympics, my goal is to be a part of the Olympic team in the future.

Beki has also enjoyed a successful gymnastic career from a young age. Again she had to train hard. After a year training at Harrogate High, she spent two years of training at Hornbeam Park where she trained three days a week for three hours per session. This hard work brought her success, winning four medals in six competitions.

Beki’s favourite discipline was the Beam but she has now taken on the new and exciting challenges of the trampoline.
