Harrogate Town 3 – 2 Frickley Athletic

7 October 2012

Harrogate Town Football Club moved into the 4th Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with a hard fought win over Frickley Athletic.

For Town,Danny Stimpson relaced the injured Shane Killock and Craig McGillivray and Tom Platt were recalled.

Town were given an early jolt when ex Town player Jimmy Ghaichem, turned in a low cross with the outside of his foot after only three minutes.

Town fought back with Matt Bloomer heading a Lee Elam free kick at Tom Woodhead in the visitor’s goal.

Two goals in eight minutes by Paul Beesley gave Town the lead.Firstly, he made no mistake from close range after Dave Merris’s centre had been squared by Tom Platt, and then he was at the far post to turn in Elam’s deep cross.

Both Beesley and Platt shot straight at Woodward as Town began to dominate.

However, the Town defence were finding the Frickley forwards a handful and on the half hour, Gavin Allott headed home from close range when left totally unmarked.

Allott almost made it three, when on the stroke of half time, he waltzed through the Town defence and hit the outside of the post from a tight angle.

After the break a penetrative run by Luke Dean set up Elam, but his centre was headed over the top by Chib Chilaka.Frickley’s David Buck tried his luck from thirty yards and then had a close range shot well blocked by Stimpson.

With fifteen minutes left,Adam Bolder broke the deadlock when he picked up a loose ball in midfield and beat Woodhead from 25yards.

Two minutes later, Town’s Lee Elam was red carded after a clash with the provocative Ghaichem, but the ten men weathered late Frickley pressure to progress into the next round.
