Yorkshire Water is encouraging people in Harrogate to get their walking boots on and take on one of the most beautiful coastal walks in the UK, with the option of raising money for a great cause in the process.
The company is supporting the charity, WaterAid, in its Coast Along initiative which aims to get teams of energetic walkers together to walk on over 240 sections of coastal path around the UK on Saturday 15
September, covering over 2,000 miles of coastline.
Details of the walks along Yorkshire’s coast are available at www.coastalongforwateraid.org/walks/north-east and include:
- Circular route around the popular seaside resort of Scarborough
- Staithes to Sandsend
- Sandsend to Robin Hoods Bay
- Scarborough to Filey

Other than possible blisters, there’s not really a down side to this initiative. People have the opportunity to take part in organised walks where they’ll be able to take in the spectacular views on offer, and, should they wish, raise money for a very worthwhile charity indeed.
Coast Along is part of the Big Dig Appeal for Malawi, which means that every pound raised by sponsorship will be matched by the government.
The money raised will help provide clean water and sanitation across Malawi, a country with over 20% of people unable to get access to clean water and with 44% not having access to a toilet. It only takes £15 to provide clean, safe drinking water to one person for life, £234 for a shallow well pump, and £5461 for one Borehole.

It’s easy for us to take clean water for granted when it comes at the turn of a tap, but for too many women and children across Africa finding water is a daily struggle and they walk for hours just to meet this basic need. The distance walked by teams will be similar to the daily routine for many in Malawi.
By joining in walkers can help to raise vital funds for WaterAid’s work to transform lives in Malawi. It costs just £15 to provide one person with safe water, sanitation and improved hygiene, so everyone who takes part will be making a real difference.
