18 July 2012

Computer in HarrogateThe number of people unemployed fell from 1654 to 1389 and youth unemployment fell from 385 to 280 from February to June.

Nationally the number of people out of work fell by 65,000 to 2.58 million.

Andrew Jones, the Member of Parliament for Harrogate and Knaresborough, welcomed today’s news that Harrogate district’s unemployment and youth unemployment figures – as measured by the number of unemployment benefit claimants in Harrogate and Knaresborough – showed a fall in June for the fourth consecutive month. Andrew Jones MP says this is great news and shows that things are really looking up for our local economy.

Andrew Jones MP said:

Harrogate’s unemployment figures are less than a third of the regional average and it is good to see they’re continuing to fall.

This means over 250 people who were unemployed in February now have a job, are now earning a wage and can better support themselves and their families.

This is good news for them and good news for the local economy.
