Claro Enterprises presentation

MP’s cash boost for local charity

21 May 2012

Local social enterprise Claro Enterprises was presented with a cheque for £550 this week by Andrew Jones, Member of Parliament for Harrogate and Knaresborough. The money was donated by Mr Jones and businesses who attended the Harrogate District Jobs Fair last month.

Claro Enterprises, based in Starbeck, provide a sheltered working environment for around 40 local people with mental health problems. At Claro Enterprises the clients make garden stoneware, MDF products, do light assembly work and many other jobs. More information is available at their website – www.claroenterprises.co.uk – or by visiting the shop on Spa Lane in Starbeck.

Mr Jones chose Claro Enterprises as a partner for the Harrogate District Jobs Fair because of the work they do with local people.

Mr Jones commented:

The jobs fair was all about putting businesses in touch with job seekers and helping people into work. Claro Enterprises was the ideal charity to have as a partner for the event because they provide a safe workplace for vulnerable people in our community. I was pleased to hand over a cheque for such a large amount and thanks must go to the businesses that made a donation at the jobs fair.

The jobs fair saw nearly 700 job seekers meet with over 30 local employers. Many interviews were scheduled after the event and at least three offers of employment made.

Mr Jones continued:

I have received positive feedback from everyone involved with the jobs fair. Three offers of employment with perhaps many more to come is great – that’s people into work and supporting their families.

Mr Jones is keeping in touch with local employers, the Harrogate job centre and job seekers for more feedback on the event.
