Grants on offer to support Harrogate District students

7 November 2018

Students living in the Harrogate Borough Council area who are currently taking post-16 education courses (2018/19) are being invited to apply for a small grant from a local trust.

The fund, which is administered by North Yorkshire County Council, is available from the Haywra Crescent Educational Trust and could provide a welcome boost for people studying at a college or university outside the district.

The grants can be used to buy books and equipment or to fund travel that relates to study.

The money is made available through the proceeds of the sale of a former education property in Haywra Crescent, Harrogate.

This year, the trust has around £1,000 to distribute to students from the Harrogate area who are studying at schools, colleges and universities outside the Harrogate borough area.

County Councillor Patrick Mulligan, Executive Member for Education and Skills, said:

This grant could provide valuable extra help for people going on to further or higher education. Funding studies can be a worry for students. These grants can help to relieve some of that pressure.

Further information and application forms are available from the Post-16 Team at Jesmond House, 31/33 Victoria Avenue, Harrogate HG1 5QE or by emailing post16@northyorks.gov.uk

The closing date for applications is 11 January, 2019.
