Awards success for popular village shop

7 April 2017

Local MP Andrew Jones dropped in on an award-winning village shop this week to learn the secret of the shop’s success.

Spellows in Marton-cum-Grafton scooped the Northern Champion award in the Village Shop / Post Office category as part of the Countryside Alliance’s Rural Oscars.  The accolade recognised owner Helen Tesseyman’s real impact on her

This includes stocking local produce to support the rural economy, supplying homemade readymeals and deliveries to those who can’t make it to the shop themselves.

Congratulating Helen, Andrew said: Spellows is more than a village shop and Helen is more than a shop owner.  Spellows and Helen are a focal point for the community and Helen makes sure that the community is her focal point.  I was impressed by just how many people are in and out of the store stocking up at the deli, buying fresh flowers and stocking up on essentials.

Spellows and Helen have real community impact.  The Countryside Alliance award is richly-deserved.
