New health & wellbeing hub Sustain in Ripon

New health & wellbeing hub Sustain in Ripon

24 April 2026

One of the city’s most recognisable retail spaces has begun a new chapter, as Sustain, a vibrant health and wellbeing hub founded by Charlotte Baldwin, officially opened its doors at the historic Halls of Ripon. The launch was marked with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony led by the Mayor

The opening marks the latest step in the transformation of the historic Halls site – long a cornerstone of the city’s shopping scene – into a thriving destination for independent businesses.

Although Sustain has been quietly welcoming customers since its soft launch last week, the event marked its formal arrival and its ambition to bring something genuinely fresh to the high street.

Charlotte founded Sustain after years working in the independent health food sector and feeling that something important was missing.

Charlotte said:

I wanted to create the kind of place I always felt should exist.

Somewhere that doesn’t just sell products, but actually helps people – whether that’s understanding what to eat, finding support, or simply feeling more like themselves again.

I want people to feel energised, joyful and well, whatever stage of life they’re in

That support is designed to meet people where they are. For some, it might be guidance through menopause – with trusted advice, nutrition and practical resources. For others, it’s as simple as a parent being able to grab genuinely healthy snacks their child will enjoy, without the sugar highs or additives.

Guests at the launch were given a tour of the space, including a historic medieval well uncovered during renovations – a striking feature that will become part of the shop’s identity and future plans. Visitors also sampled organic wines using the shop’s Enomatic wine machine, which allows customers to taste and learn about wines in a relaxed, social way.

Councillor Brodigan said:

It’s fantastic to see a business like Sustain opening in such an important location for the city.

It brings something fresh and positive to the high street, and it’s exactly the kind of independent venture that helps our community to thrive.

At the heart of the shop is a welcoming café, serving teas, coffees and deliciously healthy foods and sweet treats – a place designed for people to slow down, connect and feel at home.

But beyond the products and café, Sustain is built on a wider vision: creating a place where people can learn, ask questions and feel supported in improving their health in a realistic, sustainable way. Plans are already underway for community events, supper clubs and collaborations with local practitioners, reflecting Charlotte’s belief that human connection is as vital to wellbeing as nutrition.

Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with customers drawn to the shop’s uplifting atmosphere and its down‑to‑earth approach to healthy living.

As Ripon’s high street continues to evolve, Sustain represents a new kind of destination – one that blends retail, wellbeing and community in a space designed to help people feel better, live well and enjoy the process.

Residents are warmly invited to visit and experience it for themselves.
