Free Screening at The Piece Hall to Celebrate the Yorkshire Day Weekend

17 July 2026

The Piece Hall, Halifax BID and Visit Calderdale are marking the Yorkshire Day weekend and The Piece Hall’s 9th anniversary since reopening with a free screening of a stunning film showcasing the beauty of God’s own county.

Filmed over six years entirely in aerial and time-lapse format ‘Epic Yorkshire’ offers a breathtaking new perspective on England’s largest county.

From rolling dales to dramatic coastlines, this narrated film captures Yorkshire’s beauty, heritage, and spirit in a cinematic journey like no other.

The film will be shown twice at The Piece Hall on Sunday 2 August at 2pm and 4pm, the day after Yorkshire Day.

CEO of The Piece Hall Trust Nicky Chance-Thompson MBE DL FRSA said:

Yorkshire day is doubly important to us, as it’s not only a celebration of the county we are so proud to call home, it’s also the anniversary of the day this stunning building re-opened after the transformation.

I’m so pleased to be working alongside Halifax BID and Visit Calderdale to host this free event shining a light on our beautiful region. We’re welcoming more than 215,000 gig goers to The Piece Hall this summer and we want to encourage them to stay a little longer and explore all it has to offer.

My deepest thanks to director and producer Christian Wilkinson who made this wonderful film and has worked so hard with us to make sure we could make this event as inclusive as possible.

Self-funded and independently produced, ‘Epic Yorkshire’ is driven by a single vision: to put Yorkshire firmly on the global map as one of the world’s most spectacular travel and cultural destinations.

Director’s Christian Wilkinson said:

As a Yorkshire-based filmmaker, I’ve always been inspired by the region’s landscapes, history and strong sense of identity.

Epic Yorkshire began as a conversation between my friend Nick Hale and me. Nick’s knowledge of the county proved invaluable throughout the project in his role as script researcher. The idea was simple: to capture Yorkshire in a way no one had ever attempted before.

Over the next six years, I travelled across the county with drones and time-lapse equipment, patiently filming its dramatic landscapes from new perspectives and recording the passage of time.

This film is deeply personal to both of us. It’s our tribute to the county where we live and work, and a way of sharing Yorkshire’s remarkable landscapes, history and character with audiences around the world.

Whether you are a lifelong resident or discovering the region for the first time, Epic Yorkshire promises a journey like no other — a chance to see the county’s beauty, history, and spirit from an entirely new vantage point.

Natalie Shaw, Project Manager, Halifax BID said:

We’re delighted to support this special screening at The Piece Hall. It’s a wonderful way to continue the Yorkshire Day celebrations, bringing people together to celebrate everything that makes our county so special.

We hope visitors take the opportunity to explore everything Halifax town centre has to offer, from our fantastic independent shops and cafés to our restaurants and attractions, helping to support the local businesses that make Halifax such a vibrant place to visit.

The Piece Hall’s Visitor Experience Team will be running free crafting sessions on the courtyard for families between 11am – 3pm. Face painting and glitter tattoos will also be available for a small charge.

There will also be stalls from Visit Calderdale with visitor information and the opportunity to purchase the full Epic Yorkshire film.
