A school reunion is taking place later this month to mark 50 years since the bulk of students left the school, to start their initial careers.
Dubbed the class of 76, these were the first cohort to start at the then newly opened King James School in 1971 following the changing of the school’s status from Grammar School to a Comprehensive.
Former student Ian Bell who has been instrumental along with others in making the event happen said:
Plans to mark the reunion started around Christmas 2025 and through friends knowing friends the tendrils spread to a point where we now have over 50 attendees.
However, we are keen to get the word out wider, as everyone from the 1971 school intake are all very welcome to attend and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible.
The event is to be held at the Mitre public house on 27th of June – later this month and will be situated in the downstairs area.
The reunion organisers hope that all students from the year group along with any surviving teachers, will be able to attend.
