Harrogate is a small town located in the heart of Yorkshire. It is a spa town developed in the 17th century, situated between York and Leeds, it even has a UNESCO heritage site, Fountains Abbey. If you are planning a day out in Yorkshire, then Harrogate has plenty of things to consider doing and in this article, we’ll delve a little deeper into what those could be.

Nature

The town of Harrogate and the surrounding area have a few options for nature lovers reading this. Plumpton Rocks is one such attraction located nearly four miles outside the town. Although, you might not guess from the name, it is a man-made lake. Originally designed in the 1700s, the area has undergone recent improvements to ensure that it is a safe place for tourists to visit and provides the perfect backdrop for a day spent in nature.

If you are in the town, there are two popular gardens that tourists like to visit. The Valley Gardens and RHS Garden Harlow Carr are attractions that charge an entrance fee and offer tranquil surroundings to walk around and take in the wide range of plant life.

Harrogate is a perfect option for a day out with the mixture of leisure, sport, nature activities and historic areas. It is one of the most naturally beautiful areas of Yorkshire and continues to attract tourists from within England and outside the country. Nearly six million visitors came to the Harrogate area between 2019 and 2023 which shows just how popular it is.
