Tamworth 1 – 1 Harrogate Town

in Football/Harrogate/Sport

Town had a brake applied to their title ambitions, when they were held to a draw by lowly Tamworth F C.

Unchanged Town made the early running and George Thomson soon struck a twentyfive yarder over the after being set up by Josh Falkingham.

Next, Dom Knowles signalled Town’s intention to attack with a speculative lob which sailed wide, while Mark Beck sent Warren Burrell on a run which ended with him shooting across goal.

Tamworth, began to retaliate and the lively,Awasi Asanti, drove a powerful shot into James Belshaw’s midriff, while Joel Kettle’s low shot was turned away for a corner.

However,it was Town who took the lead after twentysix minutes when home keeper, Jack Stevens, was deceived by Thomson’s inswinging corner and could only help the ball into his own net.
Jack Emmett then instigated a move which saw Thomson find the unmarked Joe Leesley, who opted to pass rather than shoot at goal.

Town were soon rocked when Tamworth equalised to earn themselves a precious point in their fight against relegation.

Rhys Sharpe broke down the left wing and hit a superb cross which Connor Taylor headed in at the far post.

Unfortunately, Town suffered a blow when Louis Swain limped off after forty minutes to be replaced by Ryan Fallowfield, whose first touch almost restored Town’s lead, when his cross bounced of the “Lamb’s” crossbar.

The first ten minutes of the second half were played in a raging blizzard which tested the resolve of players and spectators alike.

Town began to dominate as the Lambs appeared to tire and the visitors began to lay siege to the home goal.

A Leesley free kick flashed narrowly over, while Liam Kitching had two headers saved at the far post by Stevens and sub,Jake Wright, had shots blocked on the line by both Kettle and Andy Burns.
Tamworth still had a late sting in their tail and Aman Verma almost snatched an unlikely victory, when he intercepted a Burrell clearance and brought out an excellent diving save from James Belshaw.
