Harrogate Railway Ladies gain 3 points at home against Ossett Albion Ladies

2 April 2017

Harrogate Railway Ladies at last got 3 well deserved points at home against Ossett Albion Ladies winning 5-2.

It took only 4 minutes for rail to find the net with some neat passing straight from the start, the ball fell to Laura Savage who turned to her right then left and let fly with a tremendous shot from the edge of the box into the far-right corner,1-0.

Ossett came back hard and equalled the passing skills and only 2 minutes after the restart the cross came in from the right and confusion between the railway keeper and the full back allowed the simplest of tap ins for the Ossett striker,1-1.

For the remainder of the first half it was a very equal match with both teams pressing hard and creating chances, but when Sandra (sonic) Clarke linked up with down the middle with Lorna Cooper who in turn passed out wide to Louis Donnely who then took the ball down the left and crossed in to the path of Nicola Hadley to strike home the second goal with a minute before the break, 2-1.

The second half started well for Ossett who pinned Railway in their own half for a good 15 minutes but Charllote (rocky) Donnelly was in great form and pulled of some great saves, railway eventually found a way out into the other half of the pitch and when they did they never stopped banging shot after shot at to Ossett goal. On the 68th minute after a shot from Laura was dropped by the keeper it was Louise Donnely who was there to poke the ball over the line, 3-1.

This was the breathing space the Railway wanted, after all they need the full 3 points, But Ossett were not lying down 74 minutes gone and they found themselves breaking through the middle to go one on one with Rocky and slotting past to pull it back to 3-2.

Nervous times again for the railway management, Richard and Simon, but the Red and Green Railway steamed on to create another chance not 4 minutes later, the ball was crossed in from the right, Lorna Cooper, it was played back from the edge of the box by quick thinking Emma Lansdall for Nicola to drive home from 30 yards out to make it 4-2. Railway were playing with great confidence in the whole match and were rewarded for the team performance with a final goal from Louise Donnely with a minute to go final score5-2.

In all a great display of team work today from the railway ladies and it showed that they deserve to stay up in this league, tonight they sit third from bottom and looking like they will stay up but with a tricky home game next week against Doncaster Belles and pending other results nothing can be certain just yet.
