Harrogate Railway Ladies travel to Hull

21 March 2017

Harrogate Railway Ladies travelled to the middle of Hull today with the intention of bagging three points, this however was not to be as Courts City played an absolute blinder of a game.

Railway went 1 up after only 6 minutes with a great strike from Laura Savage from 24 yards out, Courts were not going to lie down and from the re start pressurised Railway all the way until the 39th minute when they got the equalizer. Railway were just not performing as a squad at all and at times looked like a team that had only just got together.

The half time talk was not a pretty one! And things looked like they were going to improve, as from the KO railway put 6 clean passes together, finished off with a well taken goal from Louise Donnelly. 1-2 after 47 minutes. Yet again Courts replied with plenty of gusto and got yet another soft equalizer 60 minutes gone,2-2.

Railway were struggling and with 15 minutes to go a quick-thinking Jodie Hodgson seized the opportunity to do a quick short corner with Lorna Cooper, Lorna laid the ball back to Jodi who’s shot was too strong for the keeper and the ball went into the top corner,2-3.

With only a short time to go all Railway had to do was keep Courts at bay, but no, Courts broke out down the right crossed in the ball, which cleared everyone, and landed at the back for an unmarked attacker to tap in the equalizer.

Railway should have taken all three points and taken the pressure of themselves from being second bottom, but with four more games to play there is still plenty of room for them to successfully stay up in this strong and well contested league. Next week see the Railway Ladies travel back to Hull against Malet Lambert Ladies.
