Salford City 0 – 0 Harrogate Town

6 November 2016

A battling performance by Harrogate Town ended their run of league defeats, as they gained a creditable draw at Moor Lane, Salford.
New signing, Nicky Clee, made his debut at No 11, and Chib Chilaka was recalled to lead the attack.

Chilaka and Clee combined to give Joe Colbeck an early chance, but his effort was diverted for a corner.

City, soon hit back when a cut back from Jordan Hulme found Richie Allen, but Tom Platt was on hand to charge down the winger’s shot.
Town’s defence, with Simon Ainge and Ben Parker outstanding, were reducing the Ammies to long crosses which were easily dealt with by Peter Crook.

Town almost took the lead when Joe Leesley’s pass into the area was switched to Joe Colbeck by Warren Burrell, but Jay Lynch pulled out a magnificent, flying save to turn Colbeck’s cross shot round the post.

Town, helped by a slight breeze at their backs, were in the ascendancy and Wayne Brooksby headed at Lynch, before a header from ,Paul Thirlwell found Brooksby unmarked, but Leesley fired his pass wide of the near post.

Whereas,Town had shaded the first half, Salford began to dominate the second.

A Mike Phenix cross shot just missed the far post, and skipper,Simon Grand pushed forward to head a Sam Walker centre at Crook.
Next, sub, Nick Haughton’s first action was to blaze Pat Brough’s centre narrowly over the bar.

Luke Shiels,Andi Thanoj and Jack Emmett replaced Parker, Burrell and Clee, who had made an impressive debut for Town.

The Ammies kept up the pressure with a powerful run and cross from Mike Nottingham, which ended with the Town rearguard deflecting Brough’s shot for a corner, which was headed over.

Town were producing a performance full of character, however, and even finished the match with a late flourish.

Brooksby had a shot blocked after being found by Chilaka’s lay off, before Leesley’s pass to Emmett
enabled the dangerous Town sub to force a late corner.

Enough time just remained for Brooksby to try his luck from twentyfive yards with a shot wide of City’s post, before referee,Glen Hart, brought an end to proceedings, giving Town a welcome point after a lean October.
