Disability Action Yorkshire begins search for new apprentice

19 September 2016

Harrogate charity Disability Action Yorkshire has started the search for a new apprentice to work at its Hornbeam Park headquarters.

The new trainee will follow in the footsteps of James Parker, who, on recently completing his 12-month contract, has secured a full-time job at the organisation’s Claro Road care home.

The front-line position involves answering the phone, meeting and greeting visitors, booking appointments and general administration work.

In addition, the successful applicant will study for a Level 2 Apprenticeship in business administration.

Disability Action Yorkshire chief executive Jackie Snape said:

James was an absolutely superb apprentice. He excelled himself so much so that he was given the opportunity to work at our residential care home as a support assistant.

In just a short period of time he has progressed much faster than anticipated. He is studying for a vocational level two diploma in health and social care, and we have given him a special role, that of promoting sport to our customers.

A quarter of all working age disabled people are unemployed but would like to be given the chance to work.

Our apprenticeship scheme does exactly that, and, in addition to working in a busy environment, the trainee will also study for their apprenticeship.

For the right candidate, this apprenticeship will be both challenging and rewarding, and will hopefully lead to employment at the end of it.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the apprenticeship are asked to contact Karen Minteh on 01423 855 410 or be emailing her at karen.miteh@da-y.org.uk
