Police shoot aggressive dog in Harrogate

Police attended an address in Harrogate in the early of hours Saturday morning, 10 September 2016, following reports that a dog had injured several people.

The incident happened at around 1.15am at a property in Newby Crescent, where an American Pitbull dog had injured a 39 year old man and badly injured a 40 year old woman.

The dog was extremely aggressive and still in the property when officers arrived. The injured woman was also still inside the property. Efforts were made to try and control the dog in order to reach the woman who was in need of immediate medical assistance.

At approximately 1.40am Urgent Police action involving firearms trained officers was required to safely resolve the incident, which has resulted in the destruction of the American Pitbull type animal.

The injured man and woman both received medical treatment for their injuries.

An full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
