Local charity welcomes u-turn on disability payments

22 March 2016

Jackie Snape, chief executive from Harrogate-based Disability Action Yorkshire has welcomed the government u-turn on reducing payments to disabled people.

Jackie Snape said:

Whilst this is very welcome news indeed, the initial announcement caused untold stress for countless disabled people fearful of how their own individual circumstances would be affected.

Over the last week we took numerous telephone calls from disabled people worried about how they would cope if their payments were cut. This money is not spent on luxuries, it’s spent on necessities such as paying for support staff to assist with daily living activities individuals, and providing transport to work.

I sincerely hope the new Work and Pensions Minister fully understands just how vital these payments are, payments that need protecting and not cutting.
