Spinning Stokes brothers scoop awards for their cricketing skills

2 December 2015

Two Harrogate brothers are celebrating after scooping awards for their spinning skills at cricket.

Charlie and Ben Stokes have both been awarded trophies for their bowling at the North Yorkshire Schools Cricket Presentation Evening held in York.

Charlie, 15, is a Leg Spinner and his younger brother Ben, 13, is an Off-Spinner. The brothers started playing for Beckwithshaw Cricket Club when they were just five and six years old, and now train throughout the year at Headingley.

The boys were part of the Beckwithshaw Under 15 team that won the Nidderdale League Final at Studley Royal earlier in the year.

At the Awards Evening held at Dunnington Cricket Club in York, the pair were handed trophies for their spinning skills by Yorkshire County Cricketers Jack Leaning and Matthew Fisher, two old North Yorkshire Schools boys.

Pupils at Harrogate Grammar School, Charlie and Ben’s ambition is to play cricket professionally.

Ben said:

I can only dream of following in the footsteps of the great Off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and to be 100 % committed to ‘spinning the ball.
