Collision between two HGV’s on A59 near Fewston

15 October 2015

Traffic Police are appealing for witnesses  two large goods vehicles on the A59 between Harrogate and Skipton.

  • 4.30pm on Monday 12 October 2015
  • On the A59 near the public car park for Fewston Reservoir

A vehicle travelling towards Skipton had its wing mirror struck by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction, heading towards Harrogate.

The wing mirror subsequently broke, impacting the side window of the driver’s cab, shattering it and causing injury to the driver.

The other vehicle briefly stopped, with the driver getting out of the cab to correct its wing mirror. The vehicle then continued on, without providing details to the other driver or checking on his welfare. That vehicle is described as a large goods flat-back, or tipper-type vehicle with a black cab. It is possibly a left-hand drive and foreign-registered.

The vehicle that suffered damage to its window is a 55-plate Scania Tipper large goods vehicle.

TC David Minto, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

The driver of the Scania Tipper suffered a minor injury to his ear and was understandably shaken by the incident. If you can provide any information to assist me in further progressing this investigation, I would be very keen to hear from you.

Anyone with any information is asked to call North Yorkshire Police dial 101, select option 2 and ask for TC David Minto or Harrogate Roads Policing Group. Please quote reference number NYP-12102015-0357 in connection with this incident.
