Formic acid chemical spill near Ripley

The Service were called to a report of a chemical spill in at 22:52 on 12 June 2015.

20 to 30 litres of formic acid had leaked from a barrel which had fallen off a tractor and then hit 2 vehicles travelling behind on the A61

Fire Crews from and Tadcaster were initially mobilised followed by a further 3 appliances and another heavy rescue unit – these appliances were mobilised from Summerbridge, , and Malton.

All occupants of the vehicals were checked over by the service as fire service crews began to containing and clearing the spillage.

6 fire fighters wore breathing apparatus, 4 gas tight suits with the full decontamination showers also in use.

The last appliance left this incident at around 02:40
