A group of travellers have taken residence on the Oatlands playing fields in Harrogate.

It is believed they gained access to the land on 22 August 2014 and then parked a number of caravans and mobile homes.

As a civil matter, Harrogate Borough Council served notice on them to vacate the land. If they fail to voluntarily leave then it will brought in front of the County Courts in Harrogate on Monday, 1 Sept 2014, for a hearing.

Unless the travellers provide a valid reason for contesting, an order will be made and they will be moved from the land.

The travellers have caused disruption to local people who use the fields for dog walking and sports.
