Ex Leeds United player joins Harrogate Town

1 July 2014

Ex Leeds United player, Simon Lenighan Joins has joined Harrogate Town AFC.

Simon, 20, operates primarily as a central midfielder and has gained experience at Conference North and Premier level with loan spells at Bradford (Park Avenue) and FC Halifax Town.

Starting off with the Academy sides, Simon moved his way up through their various teams. He was appointed captain of the Under 18’s side and helped lead them to an impressive second place finish in the Premier Academy League in 2012-2013.

His form, which saw him net four goals in the last month, prompted the manager to offer Simon his first professional contract for the beginning of the 2013-2014 campaign. Unable to force his way into the first eleven, he was sent out on loan, first to Bradford (Park Avenue) where he made his debut against Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup.

Following his return back to Elland Road, he was then sent out to FC Halifax Town in the Conference where he made his first appearance against Chester FC in a 2-1 defeat.

Simon is no stranger to The CNG Stadium as he was part of the Leeds United team that lost 3-1 to us in a mid-season friendly last season.

Manager, Simon Weaver said: Simon is a very athletic player who can cover a lot of ground a. He also has lots of ability and we have seen this, both at Leeds United U21 level and at Bradford (Park Avenue) where he really stood out.
It’s a big year for him and we are really hoping that he can kick on and realise the potential that he clearly has.
