Appeal after motorcycle pillion passenger dies in A170 collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcycle pillion passenger died in a collision near Sinnington.

The crash happened at around 4.30pm on Sunday 30 March 2014 on the A170 at the junction with Marton Road in the village of Sinnington which is between between Pickering and Kirkbymoorside.

A dark coloured Land Rover Discovery was travelling through Sinnington and turning right into Marton Road when it was in collision with a dark coloured Kawasaki motorcycle which was travelling towards Pickering.

The man riding the motorcycle was taken to Scarborough District Hospital with serious injuries.

The woman pillion passenger was taken to hospital but was sadly pronounced deceased.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and to anyone who saw either of the vehicles prior to the crash, to contact them.

The road was closed to allow the casualties to be recovered, for collision investigators to examine the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered. (it remains closed at 9pm 30 March)
