Harrogate Railway Ladies 2 – 0 Pontefract Ladies

1 December 2013

Railway were at home today in the league chasing another 3 points to enhance their league position.

Railway however started sluggish & it was Pontefract that was winning the 1st & 2nd balls for the majority of the 1st half. Railway did contain the visitors & forced a couple of saves due to shots from Dee Swales & Nicola Hadley.

End of an uneventful half 0-0.

Railway started the second half with much more purpose & started competing in the 50/50 challenges, leading to sustained pressure & a pin point pass from Ali Purvis for Dee Swales to put the ball in the bottom corner, 1-0 Railway.

Railway were gaining momentum now & a superb move involving Jenny Huddleston, Jodi Hodgson & Dee Swales allowed Chloe Elphick to drive a fine shot only for the keeper to save. On 75 minutes another creative railway move found its way to Jodi Hodgson from 25 yards out who hit a unstoppable left foot drive into the top corner, 2-0 Railway.

With a few minutes to go Rails keeper Charlotte Donnelly turned a Ponte header onto the post, an unbelievable save which kept the clean sheet.

Players of the match were awarded to Jenny Huddleston & Jodi Hodgson.

Next week Railway are away to Bradford Park Avenue in the league & will need to raise their game to combat their aggressive style of play.
