Harrogate police investigate cigarette robbery

Police in Harrogate are investigating a robbery in which cigarettes were stolen from a van.

At around 12.10pm on Thursday 5 September 2013, three men in a maroon coloured Ford Focus pulled up near Mayfield Stores on Mayfield Grove in Harrogate.

As staff were unloading cigarettes from a van into the store, two men from the Focus approached the van while staff were distracted and began to remove cigarettes from the vehicle.

A member of staff challenged the suspects at which point they pushed her out of the way. The woman fell to the floor and was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment to an arm injury. No weapons were involved in the incident.

The two suspects stole around £500 worth of cigarettes and tobacco products as they left the scene in the Ford Focus which was driven by a third suspect.

Police are carrying out extensive enquiries into the incident including door to door enquiries and examining CCTV footage.

As part of the investigation, they are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward along with anyone who recalls seeing a maroon coloured Ford Focus travelling in the Mayfield Grove area between 11.45am and 12.15pm on Thursday.
