Emergency Services were called to Summerbridge at 11:33 today (16 May 2013) following reports of a gas leak next to a potential heat source.

Workmen working in a man hole noticed a smell of gas and the heat source.

The fire service and police are at the scene, but there are currently no signs of fire. Northern Powergrid are investigating what they believe to be an electrical fault.

A 100-metre cordon has been put in place with people evacuated near to the area on the main high street while investigation work is being carried out.

The main route through Summerbridge between Harrogate and Pateley Bridge is currently closed with a diversion in place. From Harrogate it is possible to access as far as the Dacre  junction in Summerbridge.

Update 14:00 – the road has now re-opened.
