County council steps in to keep bus service for Follifoot and Rudding Park

19 February 2013

BusNorth Yorkshire County Council has agreed to step in and provide funding to ensure that the villagers of Follifoot and Rudding Park will continue to have access to a local bus service.

The bus operator, Harrogate & District Travel, decided to withdraw its service to and from Follifoot from the 10th March 2013 and despite strong objections from local users has declined to re-consider.

County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, Executive Member responsible for public transport said:

I am extremely disappointed that Harrogate & District travel has chosen to abandon the 2000 passengers a month who use their services. The council has a role to ensure that communities in North Yorkshire have access to essential services.

However, the county council is dealing with significant budget reductions and the only way we can afford to retain this service will be by reducing other parts of our supported network of bus services.

The county council expects to be able to give full details of the replacement service by the end of the week.
