Murder charges following death of Acomb attack victim

PoliceNorth Yorkshire Police have confirmed that the two individuals suspected of attacking Keith Wright have today been charged with his murder.

Th 50-year old man was subjected to an attack on Acomb Road, by the corner with Fairfax Court, at about 7.40pm on Monday 21 January 2013.

He was taken to York District Hospital by ambulance but was transferred to Leeds General Infirmary for specialist treatment.

Sadly Mr Wright died at Leeds General Infirmary on 31 January after being on a life support machine.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, 19-year-old Liam Matthew Wyard and a 16-year-old youth who cannot be named for legal reasons, were charged jointly with Mr Wright’s murder.

They have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 14 February 2013.

The family of Keith Wright have issued the following statement:

We are heartbroken and struggling to come to terms with what has happened. We just feel numb with the pain of losing Keith and this will be with us for the rest of our lives.

The family is doing its best to stay strong for each other and we a very grateful for the kind support from our friends, the hospital staff and the police at this very difficult time.
