Man now confirmed to haved died in collision near Northallerton

TrafficNorth Yorkshire Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision near Northallerton.

It occurred at 5.45am on Tuesday 31 July 2012, approximately two miles south of the town on the A168 close to Aquatic Fanatic.

The collision involved a coal lorry heading south out of Northallerton and a silver Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision the 19-year-old man, from the Thirsk area, driving the Corsa suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The 51-year-old man from Heage, Derbyshire who was driving the lorry was not injured.

The road was closed for five hours following the collision.

Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

If you saw either of the vehicles involved in the collision prior to the incident I ask that you contact the police as soon as possible.
