Harrogate man injured in motorcycle collision

TrafficTwo motorcyclists were airlifted to hospital this morning following a near Kirkbymoorside.

were called just after 10.30am on Sunday 27 May 2012, following reports that the bikes had collided with a black Toyota RAV four-wheel drive at the junction of the A170 and the right-hand turn-off to Appleton-le-Moors.

All three vehicles were travelling in the same direction on the A170 towards Kirkbymoorside.

One motorcyclist, a man in his fifties from the area, was airlifted to hospital with leg and chest injuries, the second rider, a man in his forties from Halifax, was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

Although their injuries are serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of the Toyota, a woman from the Humberside area was physically uninjured.

The road was closed and reopened at 12pm after the casualties and the vehicles were recovered.

The bikers were part of a group of four motorcyclists travelling together and are appealing for anyone who saw the bikes or Toyota RAV 4×4 travelling along the A170 prior to the , or anyone who witnessed the actual to contact them.

One rider was taken to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough and the other to General Infirmary.
