“Bienvenue á Yorkshire”: local MP backs Le Bid

Andrew Jones MP & Knaresborough Andrew Jones has thrown his weight behind the campaign to bring a leg of the Tour de France to Yorkshire in 2016.  The campaign – known as ‘Le Bid’ – is being spearheaded by Welcome to Yorkshire.

Mr Jones has written personally to – Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire – highlighting his support and has signed the online petition at calling for the contest to come to Yorkshire.

Mr Jones commented: 

I believe Yorkshire can stage an amazing leg of Le Tour.  Our countryside will provide a spectacular backdrop and we have all the infrastructure needed to support the .

The Tour de France is the world’s best known cycling and has been an annual fixture since 1903.

Mr Jones continued:

Yorkshire – and particularly and Knaresborough – has a strong cycling tradition and I have been pleased to support many local cycling initiatives.  Hosting the Tour de France would continue that tradition and bring investment and jobs to our region.  I urge everyone to Back Le Bid by registering their support online as I have done.
