Witness appeal following fatal collision on the A1

TrafficNorth Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle fatal collision on the A1.

It occurred at approximately 5.45am on Friday 11 May 2012, on the southbound carriageway near Catterick.

The collision involved a blue Peugeot 206 car, which left the carriageway before hitting a tree and landing upside down in a field next to the road.

The only person in the car was a 27-year-old woman, believed to be local, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Details of release of the victim have not been released.

The southbound carriageway remained closed until just after 11.30am following the collision.

Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:

I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on this stretch of the A1 around the time of the collision to contact North Yorkshire Police as soon as possible.

Anyone who can help officers establish the circumstances surrounding the collision is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for John Lumbard.
