The organisers of the Oatlands Community Gala Fun Day have announced their intention to develop a stronger sense of community at this year’s Gala. The event, now in its sixth year, will take place on Saturday 23rd June on Oatlands Playing Field, off Hookstone Road in Harrogate from 1-4.30 pm.

The main fundraising drive for this year’s Gala is to raise money to open a community building in the former Oatlands Methodist Church which was purchased by Oatlands Pre-School in 2011.

Alyson Duffy, co-founder of the Gala, explains:

By modernising the former Methodist Church, we aim to improve facilities for our pre-school children, as well as provide a community building which can be used by local people.

Conversion work is already well underway, however, we now desperately need the local community to come on board to help us raise enough money to complete our building programme.

Due to the growing size of the gala, which will offer a record number of stalls and attractions in 2012, the organisers are appealing for volunteers to become involved.

Vic Smith-Dunn, fellow Gala co-founder, said:

Whether you can spare just a few hours on the day to run a stall, are a local business who could sponsor us or could help us with the organisation of the Gala, we would love to hear from you. This fun-filled day is put on for local people so we would really welcome input from the wider community.

As part of their commitment to the local community, the Gala organisers are offering local charities and community organisations a limited number of free stalls and a chance to promote their organisations’ good causes at the Gala Fun Day.

Anyone interested in helping the Gala team, offering sponsorship or raffle prizes, or booking a trade stall as well as local charities wishing to take a free stall at the Gala can contact Alyson Duffy or Vic Smith-Dunn on 01423 871846 or e-mail alyson.duffy@oatlandspre-school.co.uk
