Clarinettist Julian Bliss to perform at the Sunday Series

28 February 2012

Now in its 19th year, the Harrogate International Sunday Series is once again bringing the very best in national and international classical chamber musicians to Harrogate, with a series of five concerts at the magnificent Old Swan Hotel. So far Harrogate has been host to internationally acclaimed pianist Artur Pizarro, who opened the series, one of the UK’s most exciting string quartets, the Pavão String Quartet, and pianist Martin Roscoe, who followed on from where Pizarro exuberantly left off.

Julian Bliss

Clarinettist Julian Bliss, alumni of the Festivals’ Young Musicians Series, will be next to grace the Old Swan’s stage on Sunday 18 March, with a vibrant performance that will not fail to impress. Firmly established on the international concert scene, Julian Bliss has already appeared as a soloist with a number of major international orchestras and as a recitalist has graced some of the world’s most prestigious stages, most recently as a soloist in the 2011 BBC Proms. Bliss adds Harrogate to the list in 2012 with a virtuosic programme, showing off his technical dexterity and lyrical prowess in the most demanding scores for clarinet from the likes of Francaix and Bernstein, while Weber’s Concertante presents two equally virtuoso solo parts for both clarinet and piano.

Julian Bliss’ concert promises to be the perfect treat for music lovers this Mother’s Day, with the opportunity to give Mums the chance to spend a morning in the company of one of the brightest international talents on the classical music scene. Following the concert, enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch in the beautiful restaurant at the Old Swan Hotel.

The Sunday Series will then be brought to a triumphant close on Sunday 15 April with one of Britain’s foremost and best loved cellists, Paul Watkins.
