Local Youth Group to Perform Rock Musical, “The Wiz”

20 February 2012

A local Youth Theatre Group will be performing hit musical “The Wiz” at the beginning of March.

“The Wiz”, is the lively rock adaptation of the Wizard of Oz and originally featured Michael Jackson and Diana Ross as the Scarecrow and Dorothy in its 1978 film. The stage musical was recently performed at the West Yorkshire Playhouse last year starring Treyc Cohen from X-Factor.

Ripon Youth Theatre’s production of “The Wiz” features 30 of its young members from Ripon and Harrogate and is taking place at Ripon Grammar School on 2nd and 3rd March. Performances start at 7.30pm and the show promises to be fantastic entertainment for all the family containing high energy dance numbers and a selection rocking and soulful songs.

Tickets are just £8 and available from two venues in Ripon and Harrogate; Alan’s Gallery, Kirkgate, Ripon, 01765 690498 and Pomp & Circumstance, Commercial Street, Harrogate, 01423 504035.

Ripon Youth Theatre is a registered charity which was set up by Ripon Amateur Operatic Society (RAOS) in 2010 to cater for its younger members. It was formed following its successful production of “Oliver!” when the Society realised that not all of its shows could utilise and develop the talents of the children who had put on such a fantastic performance. The members of RAOS will be performing “Billy”, the musical adaptation of Billy Liar from 18th – 21st April 2012 at Harrogate Theatre.

The Youth Theatre provides lessons in singing, acting and dance to local youngsters between the ages of 8 and 16. For more information on joining, donating or helping out please contact louise.chase@btinternet.com
