Harrogate Town 2 – 1 Hinckley United

28 January 2012

Harrogate Town FCTown survived a sending off and a second half Hinckley fightback to complete their first double of the season.

After a cagey opening,in which neither side could create a chance,Town took the lead with a well worked goal.

Paul Heckingbottom’s excellent pass down the wing found Craig Radcliffe and his low cross was side footed home by Rob Youhill, for his first goal for the club.

Hinckley’s Dan Newton drove a free kick at Mark Cook, but it was Town who doubled their lead after seventeen minutes when Richard Pell went forward to head in Youhill’s corner at the far post.

The knitters, spurred on by the impressive Andre Gray, hit back with Gray himself twice shooting narrowly wide and Connor Deards firing straight at Cook.

Youhill glanced Heckingbottom’s cross just wide, then Jake Picton’s deep centre was headed at Denham Hind in the visitor’s goal by Paul Brayson as Town turned the screw.

However, late in the half it was Town skipper Alan White who did well to clear Deards’s shot off the line.

Hinckley signalled their intention to attack early in the second half when Lloyd Kerry shot over the bar when well placed.

Ten minutes later Hinckley reduced the arrears when Tendyi Darikwa chipped over the Town defence and Andre Gray shot home although looking suspiciously offside.

Hinckley went all out for an equaliser and Heckingbottom, Radcliffe and Picton made several fine tackles to keep them at bay.

Good work between Brayson and Youhill forced the visiting defence into a desperate block, then an excellent move which featured Brayson, sub Will Turl and Youhill won Town a corner.

Town suffered an heart stopping moment when Kerry intercepted Paul Bolland’s back pass, but he shot well wide with only Cook to beat.

With fifteen minutes left Stephen Turnbull was controversially sent off after a clash with Hinckley sub Andy Gooding,an incident which also earned Gooding a yellow card.

Both sides had late chances;Kerry shooting over for the visitors, and Hind racing thirty yards off his line to deny Turl.
