Harrogate fireman apprehends Tesco’s burglar

Fire ServiceThe North Yorkshire Fire Service were called to the Harrogate Superdrug on Cambridge Street at 21:19 last night (4th November 2011) with reports of a smell of burning.

Units were deployed from Harrogate and Knaresborough with the aerial platform also attending.

Whilst the fire crews waited for a key holder to arrive, the fireman in the aerial platform cradle noticed a man exit the adjacent Tesco’s Store being closely followed by a member of the Tescos staff. The fireman¬† thought it looked very suspicious so jumped from the platform and apprehended the man.

Minutes before the man had burgled the Tesco store of a substantial amount of money and was arrested at the scene by Police.

A 33 year old man has now been charged with burglary and will appear before Harrogate Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
