Acorn breaks records at annual golf dayThe Harrogate and Ilkley-based fundraising committee, Acorn, held its annual charity golf day at Alwoodley Golf Club in September and raised a fantastic £9,500 for its two charities – people with dementia and their carers in the Harrogate and Ripon area and for research into scleroderma disease at Leeds General Infirmary. This is the largest amount Acorn have raised at a golf day in their twelve year history.

The day began with a shotgun start and 104 golfers – the largest number ever – took part in the event which was followed by a dinner. The winning team was Manor House, made up of Martin Gill, Mike Atherton, Ian Blakey and Simon Roberts. The runners-up were Baker Tilly with Harrogate Hackers, Gray Spurr and Micklegate taking the remaining honours. Other prizes were Nearest the Pin which was won by Martin Gobbi of the Fisher Partnership with a hole in one – the first ever at an Acorn Golf Day, Nearest the Pin in Two Shots by Mark Buckley and Longest Drive by Neil McAndrews.

Next year’s Acorn Golf Day will be held at Ilkley Golf Club on Friday 7th September 2012.
