CCTV issued in hunt for Thirsk purse thief

1 November 2011

Police in Thirsk are appealing for the public’s help to identify a man following the theft of a purse in the town.

It occurred at 11.40am on Friday 14 October 2011, in Martin McColl’s newsagents in the Market Place, when a man took a purse which had been left on a counter near to the Lotto stand.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 16 and 20, around 6ft tall with a slim build. He has short dark hair which is shaved at the sides which tapers to a point at the back. At the time he was wearing a dark coloured jacket with a plaid lining in the hood.

PC Jon Grainge, of Thirsk Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

I believe that this theft was an opportunistic crime committed by a person who lives locally, rather than someone visiting the town to carry out this type of offence.

I am appealing to anyone who may be able to identify the man shown on CCTV to come forward as soon as possible.

If you can assist with this investigation please contact PC Jon Grainge at Thirsk Police Station on 0845 60 60 24 7 quoting reference number 12110176239. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
