Woman hurt in Harrogate collision

23 September 2011

Harrogate police are investigating after a woman sustained a serious eye injury in a road traffic collision at Beckwithshaw.

At around 12.30pm on Friday 16 September 2011, a 24-year-old local woman was travelling towards Harrogate on Otley Road when her wing mirror was hit by a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction, as she reached the junction with Crag Lane.

Shards of glass from the wing mirror of her white Ford Fiesta flew through the open driver’s window and landed in her eye.

The vehicle, which is believed to be a grey-coloured estate car, did not stop at the scene.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with information.

PC Simon Pape, of Harrogate police, said:

The incident has unfortunately left the young woman involved with potentially permanent eye injuries.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene to see if she was ok, they may not have been aware that the collision occurred. However, I would appeal to the driver of that vehicle to do the right thing and come forward if you know you were involved.

I would also appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward and help with the investigation.

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact PC Pape, of Harrogate police, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference 12110157535.
