A64 collision in York

The A64 near to Hopgrove roundabout in York is  closed while emergency services deal with a collision involving a lorry and a car.

At around 11.40am today (19th Sept), the lorry, which contained live chickens, fell onto its side trapping a car underneath.

The occupants of the car have been freed from the vehicle and have been taken to hospital for treatment, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The westbound carriageway was fully closed however, one lane has since reopened. The other remains closed to allow the vehicles and chickens to be recovered.

The eastbound carriageway was closed for a short period of time to allow the air ambulance to land, however this was not needed and the patients were taken to York District Hospital by road ambulance.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 247.
