Harrogate Town 0 - 0 Droylsden

Droylsden’s 10 men held on to claim a point at the CNG Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Final Score: Harrogate Town 0 – 0 Droylsden

A frustrating but exciting match for Harrogate Town. The team played well and were unfortunate to just come away with just 1 point.

Regardless of this, they are still showing a very promising start to the season. The team is beginning to play to its strengths and show improvement with each game, especially as only several players were retained from last season.

For over an hour ten-man Droylsden frustrated Town, as the teams battled out their customary draw at the CNG Stadium.

After early Droylsden pressure Town got into their stride with Adam Nowakowski and Peter Bore shooting at Paul Phillips, the latter after Craig Radcliffe’s free kick had caused consternation in the Blood’s defence.

Town were handed the advantage halfway through the half, when Paul Brown was shown a straight red for a foul on Laurie Wilson.

Harrogate began to turn the screw and Callum Hassan went close with two headers, before shaking the bar with a thirty yard thunderbolt, but Bore could only sky the rebound well over.

Droylsden made light of their disadvantage by playing some excellent possession football and they always looked dangerous on the break.

In the second period, two Paul Brayson lay offs played in Hassan who tested Phillips with low drives, then Brayson flicked on Wilson’s throw to Lee Elam only for him to blaze over from close range.

Town began to lay seige to the Blood’s goal and Bore just missed with a 25 yard drive, then an amazing goalmouth scramble saw three shots blocked on the line.

Town, backed by a vociferous crowd, could not breach the visiting defence and were almost caught on the counter when Danny Rowe shot over in the closing minutes.

The Referee allowed five minutes added time, but it was Droylsden who came closest to scoring when sub James Vaughan’ shot flashed past the upright.
