Thieves strike as driver caught cold

23 May 2011

Selby police are investigating after a haul of freezers were stolen from the back of a lorry as the driver slept.

The driver, who was heading to Andover, awoke after bedding down in his cab for the night, to find that the near-side curtain had been slashed in two places and some of his load removed.

Officers believe that 14 Eurocold chest freezers, worth around £1,400, were stolen sometime between 10pm on Tuesday 10 May and 5.30am on Wednesday 11 May 2011, as the lorry, a white DAF heavy goods vehicle, was parked up in a lay-by on the A1246 near to the junction with the A63.

The stolen freezers are white, similar in size to a standard fridge and open from the top. They all bear the model number ITF102W.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the theft or has any other information that could help the investigation to come forward.

PC Dave Fulford, of Sherburn in Elmet Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I am appealing to anyone who can help locate the people responsible for this theft to contact the police or Crimestoppers with information.

“I would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch.

“I would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have purchased one of these items recently or has been offered one for sale.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is urged to contact PC Dave Fulford, of Sherburn in Elmet Safer Neighbourhood Team, on 0845 60 60 24 7, quoting reference number 12110076266.
